Anti-aging gin is the "alcoholic equivalent of a facial"

Published:  25 April, 2016

A new gin which claims to reverse the aging process and keep the skin looking fresh even after a night of drinking has been released in North Wales.

Anti-aGin is a 40% proof gin distilled with pure collagen and is being marketed as an elixir of youth for gin-lovers who are conscious about looking after their skin.

Bodelwyddan Castle in North Wales has launched the spirit which comprises chamomile, tea tree, nettle, witch-hazel and gotu kola with a base of juniper, coriander, angelica root mixed with anti-ageing botanicals.

It has been a widely held belief of GPs and health experts that alcohol can be anti-ageing, and sugar and alcohol are known to have negative effects on the skin.

However, the makers of Anti-aGin say the ingredients were chosen for their revitalising qualities, which can heal sun-damage, inhibit scar formation and even help smooth cellulite.

The launch of Anti-aGin comes only a few days after 14,000 gin and tonic pairings became available at Holborn Dining Room, London's "largest" gin bar, as gin makers and retailers go to greater and greater lengths to set themselves apart in a crowded gin market.

Anti-Ageing expert, Nicky Hambleton-Jones, who hosted the Channel 4 show 10 Years Younger, worked with Warner Leisure Hotels to create the beverage.

The presenter rejected the idea that the alcohol in the product is harmful to the skin, insisting that drinking it is like "having a facial."

She said: "For those that want to do everything they can to stay young, but don't want to give up alcohol, this is surely the next best thing. By including some classic botanicals known for their rejuvenating properties and combining it with drinkable collagen, it's the alcoholic equivalent of a facial."

Food alchemists Bompas & Parr were commissioned to create the bespoke formula, which launched on Friday.
