Do suppliers make Christmas "hell" for retailers?

This week Angela Mount, ex-Somerfield buyer attacked suppliers for not understanding the demands of retailers in the run-up to Christmas, claiming wine account managers "disappear" in the two-weeks up to 25 December. What do you think?

Dear Sir Sorry I didn't respond earlier to Angela Mount's 'Snarl' at Suppliers for making Christmas 'Hell' for Retailers, as I was rather busy attending to the needs of my Customers! Now it's January, and UK Ltd is talking itself into a Recession, I thought I might indulge myself with a reply. I can't speak for Somerfield Suppliers, having never been one! However as a former director of the UK Importers of BARRAMUNDI, Australian Wineries (UK) Ltd, when the Brand was in the UK Top 10 Brand List, I can remember all our Board & Staff being fully available to the many Category Managers, Wine Buying Teams, Supply Chain Managers, that had the foresight to support such a progressive brand as BARRAMUNDI, on virtually a 24/7 basis - Christmas Eve included! What we never did, was to pester the life out of this elite group during the crucial Pre-Chrismas Trading Period - that really would be 'Not understanding the demands of Retailers in the run up to Christmas' and as such, refute Ms Mount's rather sad comments, not only my behalf, but on behalf of the majority of like-minded, professional Competitors. Being a Good Supplier means Being There! Yours sincerely Anthony Proctor Pendarves Estate REW Pty Ltd
