Harpers Awards 2014 winners announced at London's Hurlingham Club

Morrisons, Naked Wines, Bibendum, Corks Out, Vinoteca and the Chiltern Fire House were some of the big name winners announced tonight at the Harpers Awards at London's Hurlingham Club.

Over 250 leading figures from across the UK drinks industry including bars, restaurants, sommeliers, multiple grocers, specialist drinks websites, independent wine merchants, suppliers and brand owners all come together for what was the third Harpers Awards.

The night saw Miles Beale, chief executive of the Wine & Spirits Trade Association, honoured with the Harpers Special Achievement Award for the leadership he showed in driving the Call Time on Duty campaign which succeeded in the duty escalator being scrapped in the 2014 Budget.

Morrisons was the big supermarket winner on the night winning both the prestigious Best Multiple Drinks Retailer of the Year award and a new category, Best Online Multiple Drinks Retailer of the Year.

The Whisky Shop was named Best Specialist Drinks Retailer of the Year.

Naked Wines picked up the award for Best Standalone Online Drinks Retailer of the Year.

In the Industry awards Bibendum picked up the Best Overall Agent/Distributor of the Year award.

Leading independent merchants battled it out in the Top Merchants awards which saw Ruth Yates and Corks Out win the Best Top Merchant of the Year for three stores and over. Vignoble won the same awards for Best Top Merchant of the Year for up to three stores.

The Oxford Wine Company once again won the Best Top Merchant Wholesaler of the Year.

The cream of the UK restaurant and bar industry was present at tonight's awards dinner which saw Eddie Hart of Quo Vadis win the Best Sommelier/ Front of House award and Scott Collins, co-founder of MEATLiquor won Best On-trade Personality of the Year.

Vinoteca was named Best Drinks Offer in a Group/Chain,

The Chiltern Firehouse won Best Launch of the Year.

The Harpers Awards are unique in the industry in that they bring all channels of the trade together to celebrate success right across the wine and spirits, retailer, supplier and hospitality sectors.
