2015 year in review and hopes and fears for 2016: Clare Griffiths, Concho y Toro

Published:  04 January, 2016

Our final look back at 2015 is from Clare Griffiths, commercial director for Concho y Toro UK which saw an impressive performance for 2015- which may be tough to beat.  But looking ahead Griffiths is most excited about continuing the work her team has been doing in 2016 by focusing on building strong brands that deliver value in the UK market.

How was 2015 for you and your business?

2015 has been a very successful year for CyT UK.  We have seen significant growth on all our major brands, particularly Casillero del Diablo which is up 15% by value, Cono Sur which is up 25% and Trivento which is up 176% (IRI 52 weeks week ending 7 November 2015).  We have also received  a number of awards for our Marketing campaigns - notably Harpers 'Engaging the Consumer' Award for Cono Sur and the Tour de France.

What do you think were the most significant things that happened or issues and trends that occurred in 2015?

Wine supplier consolidation, range rationalisation and changes in pricing and promotional strategies.

What opportunities are you most looking forward to working on in 2016?

Continuing to work with our key customers to build our brands and drive category value sales with them.

Our recently announced partnership with the BRIT Awards is really exciting and we'll be looking to use it to take Frontera, which is already in very positive growth to a whole new level. The partnership with the BPI includes a host of other events in addition to the BRITs so expect to hear a lot more about this soon.

What are the biggest challenges facing the trade in 2016?

Continued cost pressures and harvest challenges.

Who are the people, companies and retailers to watch in 2016?

The retailer landscape is constantly changing.  I think the discounters and the convenience channels are areas for continued growth and ones to watch.

Spending quality time with family and friends.

Ideal day out over Christmas period?
