The Cape's generic promotional body, Wines of South Africa (WOSA), has released details of plans to shake up its annual generic tasting.

The new event, which the body has christened a 'Mega Tasting', will take place at Old Billingsgate along the River Thames in East London on 11 and 12 October, and will target the entire European market. It will replace the series of generic tastings that the body formerly hosted in each major market.

More than 200 producers already are committed to taking part in what WOSA said 'could well be the biggest generic national tasting ever presented by a wine-producing country'. The tasting will present producers by region, rather than by importing agents, and will feature a number of themed presentations 'highlighting what is new and exciting to emerge from South Africa'.

'As far as we know, no such event has been offered by another wine-producing country,' said WOSA's Su Birch. 'We are, in effect, bringing the industry to the nexus of the European market.

'We have chosen this route as more and more of the buyers on the continent are converging on London to establish what

is new in the international marketplace. This has allowed

us to present a single show that highlights what best

sets us apart from our many competitors.'
