World's most expensive champagne launched

Perrier-Jouët, the prestige Cuvée owned by Pernod Ricard, has announced the launch of the world's most expensive champagne product.

The company used the first day of spring (March 20) - in keeping with the flower-themed Belle Epoque Perrier Jouët label - to publicise details of a limited edition 100-piece set with each case containing 12 bottles.

Retailing at £40,000 a case, purchase of a tailor made champagne set will include a trip to the Maison Belle Epoque and an opportunity to meet the current cellar master Herves Deschamps.

A bespoke liquer created by Deschamps will also be added to the champagne vintage.

Olivier Cavil, Perrier-Jouët communications director, said: “Perrier-Jouet has always placed innovation, integrity and quality at the heart of its undertaking.

“Since the beginning, the House has worked with small volumes in limited production with a dedication to the art of champagne creation. The custom champagne personifies this philosophy."

A three-litre bottle of Dom Perignon champagne, which was sold in 2005, held the previous record and retailed at £9,365.
