Lion Nathan acquires Cumulus Wine

Monday, 02 June 2008
Lion Nathan has acquired US wine importer Cumulus Wine extending the distribution network for its premium portfolio in the states.

The newly-formed wine import company Lion Nathan USA will import the company's Australian and New Zealand wine brands including Petaluma, St. Hallett and Wither Hills plus Cumulus brands Rolling, Climbing and and Philip Shaw Wines from the existing portfolio.

An agreement has been made for the portfolio to move from current distributor Constellation Brands to Lion Nathan USA within one month.

Anthony Roberts, Lion Nathan Wine Group managing director, said the company was "very excited" about the deal.

He added: "Our strategic objective is to establish the best possible route to market for our wine brands.

"By establishing Lion Nathan USA we can tap into the proven skills of the CWI USA sales team and create an Australasian focussed portfolio of premium regional fine wines."
