Minimum pricing: have your say

Harpers Wine & Spirit is calling on the trade to have its say in government proposals to reform alcohol pricing and safeguard health.

This week Harpers Wine & Spirit launches an online survey aimed at all sections of the trade in order to compile a complete picture of the trade’s opinions.

Some of the proposals include implementing a ban on below-cost sales, looking at how a minimum price per unit of alcohol could be set and examining whether some “problem” drinks should be taxed at a higher rate than others.

The results will be published in the magazine and used as part of a Harpers Wine & Spirit submission to government around the issues.

Take the survey here.

Ihave been running my business "the hop, the vine" for a couple of years now and while applying for our licence this issue was to the fore in people's minds. I had written into the licence that I would not sell alcohol below 50p per unit and that I would not sell the likes of Lambrini and cheap ciders. I was hoping that others would follow my example and that the licence committee would make it harder for people to get licences but to no avail. Best wishes Philip
