North South Wines: Business Development Manager – Independent On & Off Trade

North South Wines is a young, dynamic, forward thinking wine distributor. We set up in 2014 with a view to do things differently. We are not your average wine distributor. Job Description

To deliver sales and achieve the company’s gross profit targets, increase prominence and visibility of key shareholder & agency wines whilst working towards increasing North South Wines profile within the Independent retailers & wholesalers in the On & Off trade sectors.

As a Business Development Manager, you will seek out profitable sales opportunities within your region whilst adding further growth to existing business. You will have full responsibility for your region’s P&L, set within the company’s criteria and your own KPI’s.    

In many ways you’ll be an ambassador for the business, introducing NSW and its suppliers to new business clients. You will look for sustainable, viable and commercially rewarding prospects to expand our current customer base in this growing channel.

To succeed you will work closely with Marketing, Logistics, and in some cases the brand owners, to drive the strategic direction of the portfolio and boost performance within your region.

Whilst this role is home based you will be expected to become the eyes and ears for your area and be out in trade at least 4 days out of 5 per week

We are looking for a salesperson to be based on patch for this role.


Specific Tasks

  • To achieve the company margin and sales targets
  • To increase distribution of company brands within your sales area
  • Understanding the customer’s operational systems and ensuring that North South Wines reflect these systems/structures. This includes promotional and marketing activities as well as logistics
  • Monitoring customers sales, stocks and depletions and ensuring systems are in place, working with supply chain, to ensure no out of stocks
  • Working with your line manager to maximise profitable sales in your customer accounts
  • Co-ordinating information and completion of paperwork for customer tenders
  • Providing accurate product information to customers wishing to take new lines
  • Visiting suppliers with customers where required which will include preparation for the visit and follow up
  • Hosting well planned and productive supplier visits to your customers, organised in conjunction with marketing, to deliver new business
  • Build customer relationships with key contacts
  • Continually seek out new business and specifically target new account openings

General internal tasks

  • Completing all the required internal reports and expenses as required and on time
  • Liaising with all departments in North South Wines to ensure that all are aware of your customers requirements and ensuring these requirements are met
  • Manage all critical paths for promotions and new lines
  • Working with other members of the team, prepare presentations for customers and internal meetings
  • Helping to plan customer visits where needed
  • Checking, prioritising and replying to queries on time
  • Work with Buying, Marketing and Sales teams to fully understand the supply base and their wines
  • Organising and managing monthly account meetings, utilising support from all departments
