Bacardi snaps up St-Germain elderflower liqueur

Bacardi has acquired premium elderflower liqueur brand St-Germain from The Cooper Spirits Company.

 

Robert Cooper, president of Cooper Spirits Company and creator of the artisan liqueur, will continue to work for the brand.

 

Bacardi said it planned to grow sales internationally and continue the bartender recognition programmes developed by Cooper.

 

“St-Germain is set to follow other successful Bacardi acquisitions of cutting-edge brands - Grey Goose super-premium vodka, Bombay Sapphire gin and Patron tequila - in which Bacardi owns a significant minority stake,” said Bacardi vice chairman Barry Kabalkin.
“We are thrilled to add St-Germain to our highly focused portfolio of iconic brands and honoured to be working with Rob Cooper who is one of the industry’s most successful innovators.”

 

Cooper said that the acquisition would allow St-Germain to become an international brand. “That’s something that would have been difficult for me to achieve as a small, creative brand-building company,” he said.

 

St-Germain was launched six years ago and uses hand-selected elderflowers which blossom in Europe during a four-to-six week period in late spring. It has won a number of industry awards including six consecutive years of Monde Selection Grand Gold Awards.

 

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
