Cold press coffee liqueur from Australia joins Love Drinks line-up

Published:  10 September, 2015

Love Drinks has added the Mr Black cold press coffee liqueur to its spirits portfolio.

Mr Black was created by designer Tom Baker and distiller Philip Moore in Australia three years ago and is made from Arabica coffee beans from Ethiopia, Brazil and Papua New Guinea.

A coffee extraction, which Love Drinks claims has "the eye-squinting bitterness of an espresso", is blended with grain spirit to make a 25% abv drink that is bottled in batches of 300.

It is recommended as an addition to give a coffee twist to classic cocktails.

The back of the bottle features an owl design which is revealed as the liquid is consumed.

Baker said: "Mr Black is truly like no other coffee product in the drinks industry. We're absolute purists when it comes to our product and spend more time thinking about coffee and spirits than anyone else out there.

"We love coffee - it pumps though our veins. Plenty of people make coffee liqueurs, but it's just another flavour to them - an ingredient for cocktails. Mr Black is the star of the show. A heavy pour over a lump of ice and people pretty quickly get what we're about.

"It certainly feels like the right time to introduce Mr Black to the UK bar and coffee industries.

"There are definitely similarities between the two sectors. The pride in the drinks they serve and the quality of ingredients they use in their drinks are just two that spring to mind."

Love Drinks managing director Kirsty Loveday added: "In the initial tastings we've held, feedback has been incredible and even our sales team have been pushing for an earlier launch as they can see the potential Mr Black has."

Mr Black is being listed by Harvey Nichols where it is selling for £39.50 a bottle.

The Love Drinks portfolio also includes Goslings and El Dorado rums and Hayman's gin.
