D&D celebrates Valentine's with wine and film events across its restaurants

Published:  29 January, 2015

London's innovative restaurant group, D&D, has come up with an imaginative way to help celebrate wine in its outlets in the build up to Valentine's Day with a special Love Wine and Film promotion.

If you happen to go in to any one of D&D's  in London then you can expect to be whisked off on a cinematic journey as sommeliers try and entice you with wines they love, which are also connected in some way to the cinema.

The initiative, which runs from February 9 to March 2, will also see special screenings of wine related film classics such as Sideways, Bottleshock and the Boys. There will also be film based wine tastings to offer something a little different from its normal wine offer at D&D and the chance to try wines made by famous film stars and directors like Sam Neill's Two Paddocks and Francis Ford Coppola.

The Godfather's wines will be showcased at D&D's Avenue, Quaglino's and Butler's Wharf Chophouse with a special tasting at Avenue on February 18. Plateau in Canary Wharf will be holding a Two Paddocks tasting on February 16.

Bluebird will be holding a Movie & Moët night on  February 26 where guests can Leandardo di Caprio's The Great Gatsby, while enjoying Moët & Chandon Impérial Champagne and truffle popcorn.

The New Street Wine Shop will be putting on a number of films and selected wines.

Orrery in Marylebone, will be looking back at the role cinema has had in influencing wine trends in a tasting on February 25 to see how iconic movie scenes have changed what we put in our glass.

But the film link up is the latest in a series of promotions designed by D&D to give their restaurants teams and sommeliers the chance to share their individual passions and talk about wine in a more relaxed way, said James Jones D&D's wine marketing manager.

Since 2011, for example, D&D has used the theme "Love Wine" to help celebrate Valentine's Day.

Jones added: "We are always looking to give our guests new and interesting wine experiences; and whether it is discovering a fantastic bottle from an actor they never knew even made wine, being able to taste something that appeared in a famous film they love or discovering an improbable food and wine pairing, Love Wine and Film will really do that.
