Diageo bartender competition takes to the skies
Diageo’s bartender competition World Class is to take to the skies for the UK final – the company has partnered British Airways and the final of the competition will take place on a return flight from London to New York.
Ten UK finalists will meet in the First Lounge at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 to battle it out for four spots on the flight.
On board the outbound flight to New York City, the four finalists will be tasked to create the “perfect in-flight cocktail at altitude” with limited glassware, resources and time.
On the return all-Business Class night flight, the finalists will complete the final challenge, to create the “ultimate luxury nightcap cocktail”, and the two best bartenders will be crowned World Class UK finalists.
This accolade entitles them to compete at the western European finals and a chance to go on to compete in the global final, which is set to take place on board a cruise ship.
Kate Thornton, British Airways head of product and service, said: “Creating cocktails which taste as good in the air as they do on the ground with limited time, space and resources will be the ultimate challenge.”
