Gary Vaynerchuk retires from wine videos

Published:  26 August, 2011

US social media celebrity, Gary Vaynerchuk has announced the end of his daily wine broadcast, Daily Grape.

The presenter known for his over-the-top style gave no reason for his departure, but still intends to continue voicing his opinions on retail subjects, via his site garyvaynerchuk.com.

He said on a clip today, that he was no longer presenting his wine videos. "But I haven't retired from throwing my two cents into the ring, because let's be honest I like to hear the sound of my own voice," he added.

As a self trained wine expert, Vaynerchuk met with mixed opinions in the trade but appealed to those consumers who wanted an easy accessibility to the subject of wine.

He began by reading The Wine Spectator and wine books,  and 'realized collecting wine offered an allure similar to his previous hobby of collecting baseball cards'.

Recognizing the importance of e-commerce in 1997, Gary launched Winelibrary.com and is said to have helped grow his family business from $3 million to $45 million by 2005.
