Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar to open at London's County Hall

Published:  16 February, 2012

A specialist gin bar hosting 33 English gins, will be one of the attractions at Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar, when it opens at London's County Hall, at the end of March.

The aim of the venue, is to create the most 'English of English' dining destinations, from the interior design to each cut of beef and drinks menu.

Set on London's Southbank, at the Marriott owned, County Hall, the site was built 100 years ago to house London's government, and has views of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

The venue is named after James Gillray, a famed caricaturist of the late eighteenth century, whose work punctuates the menu and will be exhibited on the walls.

Food will include top quality beef from 35-day dry aged Hereford Cattle from the Duke of Devonshire's Bolton Abbey Estate in Yorkshire.

The bar will offer a selection of 33 English gins and a cocktail collection designed by bar manager Karina Elias, ex-Copacabana Palace Hotel, and head bartender, Carlos Santos.

The newly created cocktail menu is ordered by historical era, from the Georgian cocktails such as National Debt, Wife & No Wife and Very Slippy-Weather each taking their name from popular James Gillray sketches.
