Jacob's Creek claims 2012 vintage 'best in recent memory'

Published:  29 May, 2012

Jacob's Creek has declared 2012 one of the best vintages in recent memory.

Jacob's Creek has declared 2012 one of its best vintages in recent memory.

According to Jacob's Creek chief winemaker Bernard Hickin it has produced an "exciting" line-up of wines across most South Australian regions, with both reds and whites having "exceptional quality and intense varietal character".

"Early indications are that 2012 will go down as one of the great Australian vintages of the past 20 years - comparable with 1990 and 1991," said Hickin.

Highlights include Barossa Chardonnay, Semillon and Riesling; Barossa Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon; Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon; and Riverland Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Hickin adds: "For our white wines, it was Riesling that showed its true colours with amazing structure and grace.

"While Riverina and Langhorne Creek were both excellent, again it was Barossa that yielded the highlight: tight citrus and white florals from Eden Valley compared with rich lime, almost butter menthol flavours from the Barossa Valley floor," he said.

He predicted the  Jacob's Creek Reserve Barossa Riesling 2012 will be "stunning".
