Mot Hennessy (LVMH) had indicated in May that it was studying the possibility' of selling its premium Cognac brand (Harpers, 23 May). The parent group, CL World Brands (Harpers, 25 April), aims to build a globally competitive drinks group, concentrating on niche brands'. Along with Hine, the group includes Black Bottle blended Scotch; Tobermory single malt Scotch; Scottish Leader, a leading blended Scotch in France; Bunnahabhain; Cruzan rums and Angostura Bitters. Bernard Hine is believed to be on the board of the new company and CL intends to restore a bottling line to Hine in Cognac. After LVMH removed the previous bottling line Hine was bottled at Hennessy.
