Bargain Booze develops convenience offering

Off-licence chain Bargain Booze has revealed plans to expand its frozen food range this year after growing sales in its 600-plus stores.

The move is the latest by the company, which offers franchises under the Bargain Booze, Bargain Booze Plus, Select Convenience and Thorougoods fascias, to further grow its offering from cheap alcohol lines.

In September it began trialling a premium wine collection in stores that face competition from specialist local wine merchants and in October it appointed marketing agency McCann to conduct research into consumer attitudes towards its fascias as it looks to expand further beyond the North West.

"With household budgets tightening and frozen food being such a popular consumer staple, we recognised the demand for a range to fit in with people's busy day to day to day lives. We are committed to providing our customers with products that offer good value for money and we plan to continue to develop our convenience offering over the coming 12 months," said acting managing director Keith Webb.

In November Bargain Booze appointed Waitrose's director of convenience, Diana Hunter as its new chief executive officer. Hunter will start the new role in February.
