The Champagne Bureau has called for members of the trade to nominate the UK's best wine educators in this year's Champagne Ambassador's Awards.

The Champagne Bureau has called for people in the trade to nominate the UK's best wine educators in this year's Champagne Ambassador's Awards.

The ninth annual awards opened this week and while wine educators can submit their own entry this is the first year the Champagne Bureau has welcomed third-party nominations. The awards are open to educators who work at public or private hotels, restaurants, wine schools, wine appreciation societies, agencies, wine consultancies and those who write for publications specialising in wine education.

The application form includes questions to demonstrate the educator's knowledge about Champagne production and asks how they would answer particular questions from their audience. Nominations close on July 7.

The winner of the UK final will win a five-day trip to Champagne with visits to the houses and growers, and meetings with industry figures and the eight other national winners. The trip culminates in a gala dinner and the naming of the international winner.

"Britain, the largest Champagne market outside France, has long been regarded a centre of wine education attracting sommeliers, wine educators and wine experts from all over the world to hone their craft here and progress to be masters in their field. With many great winners over the past years, the UK has a history of success at the Awards," a spokeswoman said.

Registration is open at www.ambassadeurschampagne.com and nominations can be sent to champagneambassadors@peretti.com.
