The Vintners' Company is calling on the trade to join its March for Mobility in Burgundy, through which it hopes to raise £50,000 for The Benevolent.

The trip will take place from June 7-9 - with the 20km March for Mobility taking place on June 8 - and accommodation and entertainment will be provided by local producers.

Heading north from Chassagne-Montrachet, walkers will pass through Meursault, Volnay and Pommard before reaching the finish line at Beaune, with pit-stops along the way where local winemakers will offer their wines to taste.

All proceeds from the walk will be invested in mobility scooters and starlifts. Vintners' Company chairman Anthony Sykes said: "These items can have a profound effect on the beneficiaries, not only allowing many of them to stay in their own homes but in so doing giving them a new lease of life.

"We are looking forward to having approximately 70 people walking, each of whom is asked to raise in excess of £500. For every kilometre completed, the Vintners will have been in existence for 32 and a half years - complete the 20km walk and chalk up the 650th year with us."
