Diageo launches commemorative tequila

Published:  14 May, 2013

Diageo has launched Tequila Don Julio 1942, which will be available in high-end bars, restaurants and spirits retailers in the UK through Coe Vintners, and has an rrp of £115.

The year 1942 commemorates the time late founder Don Julio Gonza?lez began making tequila in the Los Altos region in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The tequila is made from blue agave and aged for at least two and a half years in American white oak barrels. It is also made in a specific pot still, that produces three barrels per cycle.

Andrea Sengara, Tequila Don Julio global director, said: "Tequila is one of the fastest-growing categories in the spirits industry and consumers are learning to appreciate and understand the wonderful complexities in this luxurious spirit. Don Julio is growing fast in western Europe and we are excited to introduce 1942, since we believe they will appreciate this full-bodied liquid with its rich oak and vanilla essences."
