The results for the Languedoc-Rousillon Sud de France Top 100 wines have been listed on its website after being announced at the Sud de France Trade Day last week.

Six hundred wines were narrowed down to 100 in April by a panel of experts from across the UK drinks industry, chaired by Tim Atkin MW.

Over 30 AOCs and IGPs and 20 grape varieties were covered in the competition, which aims to reflects the diversity and improving quality of the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region.

Around 70% of the winning wines are seeking distribution and the judges also awarded 16 trophies to wines that they felt best expressed the characteristics of a certain theme, including a trophy for the best red and the best white wine.

The categories are listed under the headings red, white/sweet, rosé and sparkling. Tim Atkin MW, said the region's wines were "diverse, complex in a good sense and fantastic value for money". He also put emphasis on the significance of the wines, close ties to terroir and their sense of place.
