Shortlist announced for 2013 Champagne Ambassador's Awards

The shortlisted candidates for the 2013 Champagne Ambassador's Awards organised by Comité Champagne (CIVC) have been announced.

The shortlisted candidates for the 2013 Champagne Ambassador's Awards have been announced.

The UK has three finalists, Angela Bawtree of Woodbury Management Consulting, Tim Hall of Scala Wine and Neil Phillips, aka the Wine Tipster (pictured), will join 24 other shortlisted candidates who will take part in respectice domestic competitions in September with the winners going through to the European final in October.

The event was established in 2005 by Comité Champagne (CIVC) to reward wine trade professionals throughout Europe for their dedication to help improve consumer's knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the diversity of Champagne wines.

This year's competition was centred around the theme "The Singular Nature of the Champagne Region" and looked to define what is unique about the Champagne AOC.

The event is open to anyone involved in training and education of Champagne in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

The winner of the Champagne Ambassadors' Award for 2013 will receive:

  • A "pâte-de-cristal" trophy
  • A European winner's certificate
  • A silver Champagne bucket
  • Three magnums of Champagne
  • Eighteen bottles of Champagne

Judges for the awards include president, Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon, Chef de caves Champagne Louis Roederer and then jury members Klaus Herrmann, Germany, Joëlle Rochette, Belgium, Daniel Corman, Spain, Cédric Jacopin, France, Michael Edwards, UK, Enzo Vizzari, Italy, Frank Jacobs, Netherlands and Alexandre Truffer, Switzerland.
