New whisky event in Monte Carlo aimed at investors

Published:  14 August, 2013

Whisky expert Charles MacLean is to head up an exclusive three-day whisky event in Monte Carlo aimed at investors, collectors and connoisseurs, and 50 golden tickets, priced €5,000 each, will give holders access to whiskies said to have a collective value of €500,000.

MacLean will be joined by five experts including Dr Bill Lumsden, head of distilling and whisky creation at the Glenmorangie Company; Dr Sam Simmons global brand ambassador, The Balvenie; Ronnie Cox, global brand ambassador, The Glenrothes; David Robertson, founder of The Whisky Trading Company and Richard Paterson, master blender at The Dalmore.

Paterson will also host a pre-conference whisky tasting of The Dalmore Constellation in Monte Carlo on October 1, 2013. "It will be the most exclusive and expensive tasting of The Dalmore ever," said Paterson, explaining that the total value of the four single malts to be tasted at the event will be €47,000.

MacLean, who appeared in Ken Loach's film The Angel's Share, said: "It is shamelessly exclusive! It will be led by five of the most experienced blenders and best respected brand ambassadors at the absolute top of their trade. They are bringing whiskies that you will never have a chance to taste anywhere else because they are either so expensive or already sold out.

"The gloves will be off with no formalities. There will be a lot of banter between the experts with unprecedented access to them given the intimacy of the event."

The event takes place on November 29-December 1. See lamaisondecosse.com for more information.
