Cobevco brings Rob Higgs's 'Corkscrew' to Beautiful South Tasting

Published:  23 August, 2013

The headline sponsor for the Beautiful South tasting, bottling specialist Cobevco, will be pouring a selection of its customer wines from the specialist Rob Higgs "Corkscrew" at the event in September.

The prototype corkscrew was designed by Higgs and comprised 382 moving parts from found objects from scrapheaps and boatyards. It weighs almost a tonne and took three years to build. The design has since been recast in bronze and is available for hire.

The Beautiful South Tasting, which will take place at London Olympia on September 11 and 12, is organised by the generic wine bodies for Argentina, Chile and South Africa, will feature over 300 producers from all three southern hemisphere countries, and includes six tasting zones to allow for comparisons between wines.

The themed tasting tables will feature wines that meet the following category criteria: Chardonnay over £10, red blends, regional Cabernet Saugivnon, old vines, new generation winemakers and champions of the south, which will show gold and trophy-winning wines from major industry competitions.

Fiacre O'Donnell, marketing manager at Cobevco, said: "The Beautiful South offers a great opportunity for exhibitors to showcase their wines and raise the profile of both their brand and their countries here in the UK. Argentina, Chile and South Africa produce some of the best wines in the world and their respective producers are quickly becoming major global players.

"The past few years have seen a huge rise in British demand for wines from these countries, and we're proud to be supporting this event and the producers as they explore new routes to international markets."
