Zuccardi comes out top in Gaucho's Argentine Winemaker awards

Published:  13 September, 2013

The Gaucho Group of premium Argentinian steak restaurants celebrated the very best in Argentinian wine making with their own wine awards ceremony earlier this week.

The event, said wine director, Phil Crozier, was also a great opportunity to bring as many of its wine supplier partners together along with key members of the Argentinian wine sector in the UK for a night to come together and celebrate what they do. Martin Williams, Gaucho's managing director, likened the event to the Professional Footballers Association awards where footballers vote for who they think are the best players they compete against.

Crozier added: "These awards give Gaucho the opportunity to highlight and celebrate some of the most innovative and talented wine-makers in the wine world today.

"At Gaucho we're champions of the unique terroirs in Argentina that produce some of the most famous wines in the world, which is reflected in our stand-out new wine list this autumn that includes a new section highlighting the new generation of winemakers in Argentina."

In the Gaucho Argentine Winemaker Awards the Winemaker's Winemaker of the Year award went to Sebastian Zuccardi of Familia Zuccardi and Manos Negras was voted 'Wine of the Year' for its Malbec 2009. Sebastian's award was picked up by his father Jose and presented by the Independent's wine critic Anthony Rose.

The awards were held at Gaucho's flagship restaurant on Swallow Street in London's Piccadilly which also saw the unveiling of Gaucho's new wine list which cements its position as having the largest Argentinian wine list outside of Argentina, including 210 wines, 70 diffrent styles of Malbec, of which 35% are exclusive to the group.
