Published:  04 October, 2013

Robert Beynat is to step down as chief executive of Vinexpo and is being replaced by Guillaume Deglise currently general manager of Laurent-Perrier in Switzerland.

Beynat is to become special advisor to Pierre Goguet, chairman of the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry and president of the Vinexpo Directorate.

Beynat, who was one of the original founders of Vinexpo, has been in his role since 1980. In that time he has seen the global exhibition expand from 1997 in to Asia with Vinexpo Asia Pacific, and seen the exhibition hold events in Hong Kong, Japan, New York and Chicago.

Deglise, aged 39, has no formal experience of running international trade shows as he has held a number of positions within the Champagne sector, starting with Bollinger as export manager from 1998 to 2002, before moving to Laurent-Perrier where he was regional export manager from 2002 to 2009. He was then appointed general manager of the company's Swiss subsidiary, its third largest export market. He has also for the last year been in charge of the brand's development in China.

He said: "Vinexpo has grown thanks to its loyal exhibitors and the fact that its visitors have strictly professional status. Together, we will continue to build the future of our exhibitions in order to strengthen the role we play for the benefit of wine and spirits industry professionals worldwide."

Goguet said of Beynat's new role: "Robert's expertise is a fantastic asset, which we are going to benefit from during this transition period."
