Italy to host first English sparkling wine tasting

Today will see the first ever English sparkling wine tasting take place in Italy.

The tasting, hosted by Champagne expert Tom Stevenson, will take place at the Relais Mirabella in Clusane, in the heart of Franciacorta, and has been organised by the Consorzio Franciacorta.

Maurizio Zanella, president of the Consorzio Franciacorta, said: "Franciacorta, with its wine, its splendid production area and its unique history, is proud to encounter and introduce the finest expressions of classic method wine produced in England, offering its producers the opportunity to introduce themselves through one of the world's most authoritative voices."

The English sparkling wines on taste include Nyetimber Classic Cuvée 2009, Nyetimber Tillington Single Vineyard 2009, Plumpton The Dean Blush NV, Camel Valley Pinot Noir Rosé 2011, Ridgeview Victoria Rosé 2009, Herbert Hall 2010, Henners Vintage 2009, Hambledon Mill Down 2010, Hambledon Première Cuvée NV and Hattingley Kings Cuvée 2010.
