PLB to distribute Australia's Capel Vale

Published:  03 March, 2014

PLB is the new UK agent for Western Australian winery Capel Vale, which will be distributed to the independent, specialist and on-trade sectors.

The winery was set up in 1974 by Peter Pratten, who was one of the first to identify the cool climate regions of Western Australia including Margaret River, Pemberton, Mount Barker and Geographe, focuses on making wines that express the region's variety.

Peter Pratten said: "The Regional Series wines are grown where the optimal expression of its variety can be achieved. Site and varietal selection is the result of more than thirty years of research, trial and observation of vine performance in Capel Vale's various vineyards. There is a real focus on balance, complexity and elegant fruit flavours."

The range available in the UK includes Margaret River Chardonnay, Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Barker Riesling and Mount Barker Shiraz, all with an rrp of £14.49.

Capel Vale chief executive Simon Pratten said:  "Capel Vale is very excited to be a part of the new PLB portfolio, as it provides us with an opportunity to have our wines represented in the UK market by a group of passionate wine professionals who also understand our family values."

Harpers has teamed up with PLB to run a special debate on the growth and opportunity in online retailing at its Manchester tasting on Wednesday. Steve Mosey, head of BWS at Morrisons, will be on hand to talk through Morrisons' new wine and spirits offer as part of its first mainstream grocery website launched in January, and the Morrisons Cellar dedicated drinks site launched last year.

The debate will also hear from leading independent wine merchants on how they are using online opportunities to boost businesses. Ben Stephenson of Hangingditch in Manchester will look at how it is successfully marketing its events, tastings and special promotions through its website and building a wider consumer base through social media.
