Jason Atherton to open restaurant in London's Tower 42

Published:  05 March, 2014

Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton is launching a new restaurant City Social, in London skyscraper Tower 42, backed by Restaurant Associates.

The 90 cover-venue will have have art deco décor, created by Russell Sage Studios, against the backdrop of the London skyline seen from its 24th floor location. Head chef Paul Walsh, previously sous chef at Royal Hospital Road, is working closely with Atherton to design the menu which is aiming for creative yet simple dishes made from top quality British ingredients.

Atherton said: "I'm really excited to be working with Restaurant Associates and to be opening City Social within Tower 42. You will walk into my restaurant from the lifts and immediately see the Gherkin, The Cheesegrater, and all those iconic buildings that have shot up in London over the past decade, right in front of your eyes. The restaurant will serve beautiful cuisine in a glamorous environment."

City Social will have the free standing, black and steel open kitchen in the centre of the dining room. Here, guests will be able to dine at the chef's table while watching the kitchen team at work, and enjoying views over the capital.

The City Social bar will seat 85 people and serve a selection of cocktails inspired by 1910-1930s prohibition era. Gareth Evans, head barman at The Blind Pig, Atherton's bar located above Social Eating House, will design simple, short, spirit based cocktails with Scotch and American whiskies, gins and cognacs. Sommelier Christopher Delalonde, previously at the Prescott and Conran group, will be on hand to guide diners through the wine list and Andy Downton, formerly of Claridges and D&D London's The Old Bengal Warehouse, joins the team as general manager.

Atherton has four London restaurants including Pollen Street Social, Social Eating House, Little Social and the recently opened Berners Tavern within The London Edition Hotel.
