Germany's well-known Blue Nun Rivaner Riesling wine has grown its UK supermarket distribution with a Tesco Express listing at around 1,000 stores.

The German brand, which made its name in the UK in the 1970s, is owned by the Langguth family and distributed in the UK by Bottle Green wines. It is widely available across most supermarkets with an rrp of £5.25.

Blue Nun Rivaner Riesling, which comes in its signature blue glass fluted bottle joined Tesco Express's 30-strong wine portfolio in April.

The brand describes itself as a "fresh, crisp and fruity German wine", that is easy to drink, with an abv of 10%.

Blue Nun is sold in over 80 countries worldwide and remains the German favourite in the global market.

Back in 2012 Blue Nun used a shopper loyalty programme to boost sales rather than offering discounts, and saw sales grow by 4.65% following an email marketing campaign.

The brand, which made its name in the 1970s, underwent a £750,000 global relaunch in 2011, and was keen to attract new consumers and previous fans.

Blue Nun has been around for 90 years, based in the city of Mainz on the River Rhine. The first target market for the wine was 1920s London where Blue Nun was marketed as"the best of Germany".
