Cellar Trends' sales director Malcolm Rigby retires

Published:  30 April, 2014

Cellar Trends' sales director Malcolm Rigby is to retire after a 15-year career at the drinks distributor.

Rigby, aged 62, was the company's first employee and has overseen "major sales growth" during his tenure. He steps down on June 30.

Martin Watts, joint managing director of Cellar Trends, said: "Malcolm was literally the first person of seven to be employed when the company was formed in 1999. He said he would ' give us some time' and has been sales director ever since."

David Marriott, also joint managing director, said: "Cellar Trends is a strong and healthy organisation from his commitment to the company, its brands and family owners. He has been a team builder par excellence and our sales team's ability to work as one was mainly attributable to his leadership."

Rigby said: "I have found the last 15 years to be the most enjoyable of my career in the drinks business. I worked with two extraordinary gentlemen, David and Martin, who had the vision to see that there were opportunities for brands which were not able to get their fair share in what was becoming a market dominated by established brands."

Marketing director Terry Barker will become sales and marketing director from May 1. Until his departure, Rigby will work closely with Barker to help integrate the firm's sales and marketing programmes.

Cellar Trends is a family-owned company which distributes a 40-strong range of wine, spirits and liqueurs including Armand de Brignac Champagne, Chase vodka, Patrón Tequila, Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch whiskies and Pusser's Rum. It was announced yesterday that German herbal spirit Jagermeister is leaving the group's portfolio to set up its own distribution company in the UK.
