Tech-focused wine entrepreneurs could win start-up help

Published:  15 May, 2014

Tech-focused entrepreneurs with a foot in the wine world could win start-up funds, a trip to Bordeaux, and expert advice after pitching ideas to new club 33Entrepreneurs next month.

The group is hosting a competition, in partnership with Google, to allow trade newcomers to share their ideas in order to win the chance to have them developed.

Jean-Charles Cazes of Domaine Jean-Michel Cazes, one of the group's mentors, will provide the wine for a tasting on the evening of Monday June 2, followed by the startup pitch contest and a conference led by Richard Halstead of Wine Intelligence, Robert McIntosh of Vrazon and Roberto Bonanzinga of Balderton Capital.

The event kicks off at 6.30pm at Google Campus in London's Shoreditch.

Vincent PretetVincent Pretet33Entrepreneurs founder Vincent Pretet is hoping to uncover wine tech entrepreneurs at the London start-up event it is running next month.

Founder of 33Entrepreneurs Vincent Pretet said: "33Entrepreneurs is the world's first wine, gastronomy and tourism start-up accelerator. Our goal with the EuropaTour is to uncover and reward the most talented teams in Europe, and ask them to work with us in Bordeaux. Our focus in London, given the timinig with the London Wine Fair, is to look for wine-focused, tech-based start-ups in particular. We can't wait to see the talent London will deliver, and to then offer them the best of France in Bordeaux."

The winner who travels to Bordeaux, with the aid of a 500 EUR travel bursary, will partake in an intensive week of meetings with press, mentors and investors  all working on their concepts.

The group's EuropaTour accelerator programme usually lasts for three months.
