RICHARD & JUDY LAUNCH WINE CLUB

Published:  23 July, 2008

The Ali G impressions and impromptu lingerie modelling sessions will hopefully be a thing of the past when Richard and Judy launch their own wine club next month. The six-week course begins on Friday 5 November, with the wines for the show selected with the help of Bristol-based wine merchant Averys. Viewers can pre-order a case of the wines that will be tasted, so that they can taste while watching the show, which will cover topics such as cellaring, bottling, and oak-ageing. TV interior designer Anna Ryder Richardson, who has been drinking her way round Europe', will be reporting from across Europe, meeting half-a-dozen winemakers. Averys' head of commercial development, Keith Heddle, said that Richard and Judy don't claim to be wine experts, but rather they see themselves as part of the audience, and ready to learn: There will be a different wine expert coming in each week; there's a winemaker lined up, and a couple of wine journalists.' Heddle added that he hopes that sales of the wines will mirror the success of Richard and Judy's book club, which caused many titles to top the best-seller charts: We hope that it's a phenomenal success. We're appealing to a largely new market.'
