The Famous Grouse hopes Commonwealth Games will attract visitors to new distillery

The Famous Grouse, the official whisky provider to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, is expecting a rise in footfall to The Famous Grouse Experience visitor centre over the next 17 days as the games kickoff today in Scotland.

Stuart Cassells, general manager of The Famous Grouse Experience, said: "I am very excited about our role in this historic event. The Famous Grouse is a proud sponsor of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and Glenturret is not only Scotland's oldest working distillery, offering visitors a unique whisky experience, but our hand produced rare and exceptional single malt is also a key ingredient in the world's favourite blended whisky, The Famous Grouse."

The visitors centre is located at the Glenturret Distillery in Crieff, Perthshire and with over 1 million spectators expected to attend the Commonwealth Games, The Famous Grouse hopes to capitalise on the increased number of visitors to Scotland.

The Famous Grouse Experience has coordinated with tourist operator Rabbie's to provide attendees of the Commonwealth Games an opportunity for visitors to take Mercedes mini coaches that can seat up to 16 people directly from the city centre to the distillery. The tour package includes daily tours leaving Glasgow at 9 am, travel to the distillery, a private tour and lunch for £45.  VIP tours are also available.

Cassells said: "I look forward to welcoming guests to our beautiful distillery from around the globe and sharing a traditional Scottish dram with them in toast of the inevitably inspirational athletic achievements of our great nations."

The distillery and visitor centre was officially re-opened by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in May following a £250,000 investment to develop the distillery to be offer visitors an experiential opportunity to explore and educate themselves on whisky and the whisky making process.

The distillery was established as a single malt distillery in 1775 and is set in the foothills of the Scottish Highlands.  The distillery hosts an average of 120,000 visitors per year.
