Hangingditch, the leading Manchester independent wine merchant, is expecting up to 500 guests to attend its annual consumer wine fair on Friday which also offers live classical musical and operatic singing in the impressive backdrop of the Manchester Cathedral.

Ben Stephenson, owner of Hangingditch, told Harpers.co.uk that the event, now in it seventh year, is "more than just a wine fair".

"This is a high quality event, presenting an amazing selection of wines, alongside high quality live music in a spectacular setting. There will be 260 products to taste, shown across 41 tables giving an average of six wines per table, so the ratio of wines to presenters is nicely balanced."

Stephenson hopes the event will also attract a lot of activity on social media, particularly Twitter, as each tasting table as his own Twitter name. Anyone interested in the event or taking part can also use the Twitter hashtag #hdwf7 to take part in the live conversation.

"We are expecting 500 guests - twice as many as last year" added Stephenson.
