Springbank Distillers, which claims to have been the only whisky distillery to back Scottish independence, has brought a limited edition bottle to commemorate the historic vote in September.

It has named its special release the Spirit of Freedom 45 to commemorate the fact the 'Yes' vote achieved 45% of the poll. It also has an abv of 45% and has been made from a blend of 45 whiskies selected from every whisky producing region of Scotland.

Ranald Watson, sales and marketing manager at Springbank Distillers, told the Scotsman: "Springbank was the only Scottish distillery to come out publicly in favour of independence and our stance struck a chord with many voters throughout the country and beyond."

He added: "Spirit of Freedom is a brand name we have used in the past and we thought 2014 was an appropriate year to bring it back to life. We launched a 30-year-old version of the blend to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn in June and decided to follow that up with The 45, a blend of 45 whiskies from all the whisky producing regions of Scotland."

The distillery said it has received so much interest in the special release from all over the UK that it is making it a UK-only product. It has a RRP of £25 per bottle.

Springbank is based in Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre.
