HWCG ON-TRADE

Published:  23 July, 2008

HwCg has launched a new French brand, targeted specifically at the house wine sector of the on-trade. The Hertfordshire-based importer, best known for innovative French brands targeted at the multiples, has sourced the wines from Cave de Rieux in the Languedoc. The brand, Cuve Lavande, currently comprises a red and a white, both AOC Minervois, with a ros in the pipeline. The wines are made by Dominic Hentall, one of HwCg's resident winemakers. The red is a blend of Carignan, Merlot and Grenache; the white is a blend of Marsanne and Chasan. Both wines are sealed with a Stelvin screwcap. Helen Munday, PR and marketing director at HwCg, commented: The Cuve Lavande range has been developed to ensure that there is a clear, consumer-friendly, French brand for the on-trade.' France is currently the country with the greatest market share in the on-trade, with 37% by volume, but this share is showing a decline of two% year on year.
