Whisky Birmingham to attract 150 whisky players to its 2015 show

Published:  12 December, 2014

Over 150 whiskies will be on show at Whisky Birmingham on March 7, 2015, England's largest whisky festival outside London.

The 2015 event will be triple the size from the inaugural event in 2013 and demonstrates the interest in whisky with consumers around the country, said the show organisers.

Leading producers and brands owners will be present including Pernod Ricard, Maxxium, Laphroaig, Buffalo Trace, Macallan, Chivas Regal and Glenlivet with a number of international whiskies also attending from Japan and India.

Whisky Birmingham 2015 hopes to attract 600 people to Birmingham's The Bond which will also include specialist masterclasses and whisky-matching sessions.

Whisky Birmingham is the brainchild of Amy Seton, founder of the Birmingham Whisky Club, which hosts whisky tastings throughout the year. She said of the 2015 event:  "There has been a real sea change in Birmingham over the past year - whisky is becoming an ever greater part of the drinks mix here, both on- and off-trade. The festival's pre-Christmas ticket sales for this year are already dwarfing last year's, and we're attracting more brands and visitors from across the country."

Philip Huckle, brand ambassador at Pernod Ricard UK, explained why it would be attending the show: "Birmingham is interesting for several reasons. It's very much an emerging market as far as whisky is concerned. It has a large young population representing new drinkers, and this year has seen new specialist retailers open, and a growing calendar of whisky-related events and activities."

The Whisky Birmingham 2015 festival will take place on 7 March 2015 at The Bond in Birmingham. Brands and retailers wishing to exhibit can find out more at the official website.
