Dolan was named interim chief executive in May following the announcement a month earlier that previous chief executive Ed Shirley was to retire. Dolan, who served on the board of directors of the company, started at the firm in 2009 and his permanent appointment was confirmed yesterday.

Prior to joining the Bacardi board, Dolan was the chairman and chief executive of the media, sports and fashion conglomerate IMG Worldwide.

Dolan appointed internal candidate Dmitry Ivanov to be the new chief marketing officer. Most recently he headed up its global rums category. Ivanov is replacing Andy Gibson who held the position for two years but will be leaving the company at the end of March.

"With 20 years in consumer marketing roles, and eight years with Bacardi, Dima knows our brands and what it takes to successfully market premium consumer goods. Having led the largest market within Europe, he also brings a perspective of what countries need from a CMO in order to execute brand ideas successfully," said Dolan.

Ivanov, who most recently developed and launched the "Bacardi Untameable since 1862" campaign will now be responsible for the global marketing organisation for Bacardi's 200-strong portfolio of spirits brands. Some of Bacardi's most recognised brands include Bacardi rum, Grey Goose vodka, Dewar's blended Scotch whisky and Bombay Sapphire gin.

"Dima's proven track record of accomplishment is based on great leadership skills, marketing excellence, and a consistent track record within the Bacardi organization" said Dolan.

Ivanov has been with the company since 2008 where he started as marketing director overseeing its brand portfolio in Russia.
