Copestick Murray was inspired by Bartle Bogle Hegarty co-founder Sir John Hegarty's 'no holds barred' keynote speech at the WSTA conference last year to sign a distribution deal for his wines in the UK and Ireland.

John HegartyAdvertising legend Sir John Hegarty did not mince his words on the wine industry at September's WSTA conference. He has now teamed up with Copestick Murray to distribute his Minervois wines in the UK and Ireland

Hegarty made waves at the conference back in September 2014, when he slammed the wine trade for being "truly appalling", and said it should try to entertain, not educate, as BBC programme Top Gear does.

Copestick subsequently met with Hegarty, who co-owns the Hegarty Chamans winery in France's Minervois region which produces biodynamic and organic wines, and the distribution deal was forged.

The current range will be distributed to the on-trade, independent stores, mail order  companies and wine specialists. Hegarty will also work with the Copestick Murray design and marketing team to create new Languedoc wines aimed at the multiple specialists with the intention of putting some "energy and excitement" into the French wine category.

Robin Copestick, co-founder and managing director at Copestick Murray, said: "The moment I heard Sir John speaking at the WSTA conference I knew that this was a person with whom I would love to work. Then I tasted the superb quality of his wines and listened to his ideas to create exciting and innovative French wines and I was certain that this was a perfect fit for Copestick Murray. The wines are on the way to us as we speak and we have a number of great new ideas to present to all of our customers. This is a great way to start 2015."

Hegarty added: "Working with a dynamic, entrepreneurial company has always been the ambition of Hegarty Chamans. That's why we're excited to be working with Robin and his team. I've always believed wine needs less mystery and more magic. I know we'll get that from Copestick Murray.

Copestick Murray was set up in 2005 as a wine importer, distributor, brand owner and agent based in Wiltshire. In September 2013 sparkling wine giant Henkell & Co purchased 60% of Copestick Murray. Copestick Murray is the owner and creator of I Heart range of wines, sold in more than 18 countries worldwide.

Hegarty cofounded advertising agency, Bartle Bogle Hegarty and has recently set up a new business called The Garage which aims to support and capitalise entrepreneurial companies which are scaleable and innovative.
