Published:  23 February, 2015

Independent wine merchants are flocking to Manchester's Old Trafford today for the start of the Specialist Independent Trade Tasting (SITT).

The event, which moves to the Lindley Halls in London on Wednesday, brings together 67 specialist importers, boutique wineries, and agencies that are dedicated to the independents on- and off-trade sectors. Attendees have the opportunity to try a range of interesting and diverse wines from smaller and less well-known producers, as well as attend a series of masterclasses to broaden their portfolios.

Supplies includes Hayward Brothers, Las Bodega, Seckford Agencies, Bulgarian Wines, Red Squirrel Agency, Romanian Winegrowers and Vigneron et Patrimonie.

Masterclasses being held at both include looking beyond Sauvignon Blanc in Horizons of Marlborough Winemaking with Marcel Giesen, chief winemaker of Giesen and Bell Hill Wines, which includes the opportunity to taste of its best chardonnay and pinot noirs. Other sessions cover Portuguese boutique wines from different regions with Victor Amara of D&F Wines, and Great Whites of South Africa, with Lynne Sherriff MW of Awin Barratt Siegel Wine Agencies.
