Byron and Browns come out top in new customer poll for best on-trade chains

Published:  20 February, 2015

If you want to sell your wines and spirits to the happiest of customers then you need to get on the lists at Byron, the premium burger chain, and Browns, according to new research from CGA Peach BrandTrack.

It has pulled together the on-trade brands and chains that customers most enjoy in its new satisfaction survey.

Of the Top 40 best performing on-trade brands Byron and the Mitchells & Butler owned, Browns, come out joint first. It demonstrates how casual dining is very much in vogue with UK diners who are not only looking for quality food, but with good service and at a reasonable price.

The research found that Byron and Browns left 50% of customers feeling "very satisfied" with their visit. Third in the poll was buffet chain, Cosmo, pan-Asian group Wagamama and Greene King's Loch Fyne.

The expanding Five Guys chain came out top for food quality, with 53% of "very satisfied" customers followed by Loch Fyne (49%) and Wagamama (47%).

Crown Carveries was rated highest on value for money with 45% of its customers giving it top marks, ahead of Cosmo (42%) and

fellow carvery concept Toby (40%).

Jamie Oliver's Jamie's Italian came out top for service, with Browns and TGI Friday's second and third.

Peter Martin, vice president of CGA Peach, said of the findings: "The UK's eating-out market is more competitive than it has ever been, and all brands have to work incredibly hard to keep their guests satisfied. These figures reveal which of them do so best, and we salute them all."

The results are based on CGA Peach's BrandTrack October 2014 survey of 5,000 British adults who eat out.
