Nathan Evans has been recruited from the Boisdale Group to help oversee the launch of the famous US steakhouse chain, Smith & Wollensky in to the UK.

Smith & Wollensky are finally set to make their much touted debut in the UK with a flagship site on London's the Strand in June. It will be the chain's first steakhouse outside the US.

Evans has been brought in as operations director and will also act as general manager for the opening phase of the launch, help set up a satellite office in the UK, hire a new management team and oversee the day-to-day running of the restaurant.

Evans is well known to the UK on-trade sector for his work with Boisdale where he was deputy managing director and business development director. He was behind the launch and development of Boisdale's flagship site in Canary Wharf which has become established as a live jazz venue in London.

He previously worked as senior manager at Davy's and its portfolio of wine bars and restaurants and was operations consultant for Foxy Roast & Grill in Hove.

He said of his new role: "I first ate at a Smith & Wollensky restaurant in the late nineties and fell in love with it like so many others before me. Despite the other operators that have entered the London market since, I have never been more certain that the brand will succeed. Quality runs through everything that Smith & Wollenksy does, from the dry-aging and butchering of USDA prime beef on-site to the incredible wine lists."

Smith & Wollensky's first London venue will feature both its own brand elements, but promises to also pay "homage to the capital's rich history".

Michael Feighery, chief executive and president of SWRG, said: "We're hugely excited to have someone as talented and passionate join our team. He's a great asset who will ensure Smith & Wollensky London is everything diners expect it to be, and more."

Smith & Wollensky London will be situated in the Adelphi Building on John Adam Street.
