France Under One Roof is hosting its 14th annual tasting today at the Lindley Hall, Royal Horticulture Halls in London.

The annual tasting provides an opportunity for independent merchants, restaurateurs and local wholesalers to taste wines that are currently offered on an ex-cellar basis or are being imported by some of UK's specialist French importers.

A new aspect to the event this year is the "New to Market" tasting which will offer 47 wines that are either 'brand spanking new' or where the production method has changed.

Some exhibitors which are participating include Boutinot, Dedicated Wines, Guy Anderson Ltd, Les Grands Chais de France and Free Run Wines.

Early this month Harpers reported the results of its own survey of up to 200 independent merchants from across the trade, which indicates that France as a wine producing region is still critically important to the sector. Over 88% of respondents reported that France is in the top five selling countries of origin and France had the highest percentage among all the regions globally.

Tim Wilson from Wilson's Drinks Report reported that although the UK's consumption for French wine has declined in volume over the last decade, online France still dominates that channel. France commands the highest average price per bottle online with an average of £8.31 for the 12 months to the end 28 June, 2014.
