Tomorrow June 13 people the world over will be celebrating the classic English tipple-gin.

Gin is certainly something to be celebrated, particularly with the renaissance the spirit has had in the past few years. Last year the UK gin industry grew in value by 11.3% and 19.8% in the last two years, according to Wine and Spirits Trade Association research.

Miles Beale, chief executive officer of the WSTA, said: "Gin has seen a renaissance in popularity over recent years fuelled by an extremely exciting artisanal trade here in the UK. World Gin Day provides us with the perfect opportunity to reflect on this success which we are now seeing take off across Europe and look forward to future growth."

Nearly 140 million bottles of gin that is produced within the UK is exported yearly.

The craft distillers have been a driving force behind the renissance, with sales of premium gin having grown by 48.7% in the last two years.

A spokesperson for the newly Launched Gin Lane 1751 said: "In the last five years gin has developed into the most vibrant and innovative category within the drinks category.  We have seen a raft of craft gins launch and the bigger brands develop exciting range extensions.  We are delighted to be part of such a dynamic sector since the launch of Gin Lane 1751 this week, and look forward to celebrating with our "gin for gin lovers" on World Gin Day!"

London-based steakhouse Jones Family Project is hosting events as are several on-trade establishments and pop-up bars across the city. For information about events across the UK visit World Gin Day.

Amit Joshi, co-founder of The Jones Family Project, said: "There'll be a brilliant atmosphere at our bar all day, it's a great opportunity to showcase all of the fantastic gin brands there are on the market. We worked with Langley's No.8 on a two month 'Dine in a Distillery' pop-up in our restaurant last year and ever since it's been a customer favourite and remains top of our G&T menu today, so we're delighted to be working with Langley's No.8 on World Gin Day".
