Scotland's NB gin secures export deal in the US

Published:  21 September, 2015

A boutique Scottish gin producer is in line to be served in high-end New York cocktail bars and restaurants after signing a US distribution deal.

NB gin's partnership with Duggan's Distillers will see the American company import it for sale in the city before rolling out to other selected states.

The deal adds the US to export markets such as France, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and Australia that NB has carved out since launching in 2013.

Its founders said it was a "transitional phase of the spirit moving to global brand status".

Chief executive officer Vivienne Muir said: "Similar to the UK, the gin market in the US is becoming more and more focused on small batch artisan brands.

"Stockists are seeking out interesting hand-crafted gins because their customers are looking for variety, quality, authenticity and something which has a different story to the mainstream brands."

NB estimates that by 2017 revenue will have grown by six times that of year one and that exports will account for 75 per cent of the company's total sales.

The deal was struck after a Duggan's employee tasted NB while on holiday in North Berwick, where it is made.
