Alsace throws spotlight on terroir and food pairings with autumn promotional push

Published:  06 October, 2015

Alsace wines are getting an autumn promotional boost in the UK with an online sponsorship and trade tasting.

The sponsorship deal involves a series of articles on the region and its wines, with food pairings from leading sommeliers, on the recipe website Great British Chefs.

It will end later this month with a competition for two people to wine a trip to vineyards in Alsace.

The trade tasting takes place in London on October 12 at Chandos House in London. The aim is to give visitors the chance to explore the terroirs of Alsace through Riesling and Pinot Gris wine.

Over 80 wines, all available in the UK market, will be available to taste and there will be masterclasses on What Makes Alsace So Special, led by master sommelier Eric Zwiebel.

Foulques Aulagnon, export director of the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins d'Alsace, which recently revamped its Alsace Wines website, said: "There are a number of different factors that make Alsace wines special, from over 1,800 hours of sunlight every year to the mosaic of soils that make up our 15,500 hectare vineyard.

"We've completely revamped our website to make sure it's a hub of information for both wine professionals and wine lovers, and our trade and consumer activities echo this.

"As soon as someone tastes our wines, it becomes clear that Alsace is truly one of the great wine producing regions of the world."
