Slovenia's Puklavec winery finds friends in Waitrose

Published:  25 November, 2015

Slovenian family-owned winery Puklavec & Friends has won nationwide listings for two of its wines in Waitrose.

The retailer will be ranging the winery's Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio 2015, and its Furmint 2013.

The latter is made from the indigenous Furmint varietal, grown on terraced vineyards in Jeruzalem, Eastern Slovenia.

It has an ABV of 13.5% and retails at £9.99.

The Sauvignon/Pinot Grigio blend hails from the north east of the country, where the grapes are still hand-picked.

It has a slightly lower ABV of 12% and will retail for £8.99.

Tatjana Puklavec, managing director of P&F wineries, said: "As consumer demand for modern, clean wine styles increases, so to does the popularity of Slovenian and Macedonian wines in the UK. It's time to sit up and take notice.

"As a country, we are producing crisp, refreshing white wine styles that are currently very popular with UK consumers. "The launch of our 2015 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio and 2013 Furmint provides us with a fantastic opportunity to share Slovenian wine with a wide customer base, helping Slovenia take its place as a significant wine producing nation and raise awareness of its rich viticultural heritage."

Puklavec & Friends was founded in 1934 by oenologist Martin Puklavec. Its vineyards are located in the Podravje region of Slovenia.
