A 45-minute film of US actor Nick Offerman sitting by a log fire and sipping Lagavulin has become a global viral hit.

Posted on YouTube on Wednesday, the film has already racked up 1.25 million views.

The film, titled Nick Offerman's Yule Log, is part of Lagavulin's My Tales of Whisky series.

Offerman does not speak in the film.

He looks into the camera and occasionally crosses his legs. Or uncrosses them.

From time to time he looks thoughtfully at his shoes.

He also pauses to refill his glass.

Offerman is best known for his role as Ron Swanson in the sitcom Parks and Recreation.

The actor's fondness for the Islay single malt is reflected in Swanson's character, who buys a 51% stake in the distillery in the show.
